Astor Tech
Business Area: Astor Tech – System solutions for modern defense
Astor Tech is the Group’s technology hub and its primary mission is to develop, manufacture, and deliver advanced system solutions in areas such as electromagnetic warfare, advanced high-speed testing, and (through collaboration) military stealth and covert vehicles for unmanned underwater weapons, among other things. The business area is primarily aimed at the armed forces of NATO countries, defense industry companies, and government agencies responsible for security, but also at research institutes. Astor Tech’s companies primarily supply operational systems but also provide training solutions and technical infrastructure for testing, verification, and evaluation. The business area comprises three companies with clear core technological competencies:
- Oscilion EW Systems AB and Oscilion Naval Systems AB (jointly referred to as Oscilion)
- Scandiflash AB
Oscilion EW Systems
Oscilion EW Systems AB specializes in electromagnetic warfare (EW) and develops complete system solutions for the detection, analysis, simulation, and jamming of electromagnetic signals. The company’s latest system, Eclipse C-UAS, is a portable, adaptive system designed to suppress and degrade hostile radio-controlled drones. The system can detect, jam, degrade, and deceive drones across a wide frequency spectrum, offering improved protection for artillery, troops, and other military vehicles and installations.
Oscilion EW Systems AB’s portfolio also includes the Astor series, Astor III and Astor IV, which are used for operator training and to improve target seekers and radar systems. The latest version – Astor IV – is an airborne radar jamming system designed to effectively jam and mislead enemy radar systems and can also be used to increase the survivability of military air and ground units.
The business also offers solutions for GPS jamming and communication network hardening (i.e., making a network robust, resilient, and secure in both civilian and military contexts). The company develops its own hardware and software platforms and provides the entire value chain – from system design to commissioning, testing, and customer training. Areas of application include the protection of military operations, critical infrastructure, naval units, and tactical command centers.
Oscilion Naval Systems
Oscilion Naval Systems AB specializes in marine technology development and advanced underwater solutions, including unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and stealth vehicles. The business focuses on silent propulsion technology, which is crucial for the next generation of underwater platforms in the defense sector.
Through Astor Group’s collaboration and co-ownership of Dolprop Industries AB, the company holds exclusive rights to develop and commercialize military applications of this technology—such as underwater stealth technology, stealth vehicles, and unmanned underwater weapons. This position enables a unique offering to defense customers with a need for strategic autonomy below the sea surface and future-proof naval capabilities.
Both of Oscilion’s businesses are based in Stockholm and employ a team with backgrounds in signal processing, RF technology, security, defense systems, and advanced software development, among other areas. The companies work closely with Swedish and international authorities and research institutes to ensure the relevance of the technology in existing and future threat environments.
Scandiflash
Scandiflash AB, based in Uppsala, is a leader in flash X-ray technology—a method for seeing through smoke and fire, for example, and into materials such as metal, liquid, or composite, to image extremely fast processes, such as when a projectile traveling at thousands of kilometers per second hits armor or during explosions and pressure surges. With exposure times down to 20 nanoseconds, Scandiflash AB’s equipment can freeze moments that cannot be captured with other systems. Scandiflash AB’s systems are used for, among other things:
- ballistic tests,
- space and aviation material testing,
- research projects in collision dynamics,
- validation of protective materials.
The company’s products are installed in over 30 countries and are used by defense research institutes, universities, weapons manufacturers, and space organizations, among others. The systems are modular, and the company offers customization, spare parts, calibration, and advanced support.
Three business areas
Astor Group’s operations are organized into three clearly defined business areas:
